CertificationType Approval

Be prepared for Type Approval

Introduction

Regulatory certification can be just a step before going to market but can becomes a nightmare if it is not well prepared.
The manufacturer must provide the units and ancillary equipment needed for testing.

Additionally, technical documentation, sufficient to allow testing to be performed, shall be available.

It is strongly advised to perform pre-certification tests to ensure the device is compliant to the main certification constraints before release the version (hardware and software) for certification.

ETSI EN 301 489-1 (base) / -3 (SRD)

 Test modes

EMC testing requires to be able to monitor the correct behavior of the device.

The device shall have a reception and transmission mode (depending on the capabilities) at least at lowest and highest frequencies declared by the manufacturer.

The manufacturer shall supply another device to monitor the correct transmission or to send frames to the DUT to check the reception. If this is not possible the manufacturer must provide a way of testing.

All test modes shall be continuous.

Golden samples

At least 2 devices shall be available for testing: 1 radiated and 1 conducted.

It is always better to have several devices in case there is an issue with one of them.
