International Regulatory Certification guidelines for Sigfox devices
Scope
The marketing of radio devices is highly regulated in all countries over the world and is considered very sensitive.
Given this, all radio products and short range devices must comply with country-specific requirements to obtain regulatory or type approval. Depending on the country the necessary processes can differ considerably ranging from “self-declaration” via “classical type approval” to more complicated rules.
Sigfox ready devices must also show compliance to country regulations and must follow the mandatory processes to obtain certification in each of them.
Regulatory certification is a critical step in a Go-To-Market strategy since it is the legal certification by the local country government for Partner product sales.
This document provides guidance on what is necessary to certify a Sigfox device in each Sigfox operated country. This document does not replace standards or regulatory documents.

Please note that the information provided in following table are given on an indicative basis; they could vary.
The cost indicated is an average of cost when using a test house to perform certification. Local manufacturers could have better prices and/or be able to perform certification without this kind of service. For countries where local tests are needed for the certification, sample will be requested.

Certification phases & scheduling
Each country has its own process; but two paths could be distinguished:
- It is not mandatory to perform tests in the country
- It is mandatory to perform tests in the country.
The country’s certification should be done in parallel of the SIGFOX certification (described in BUILD https://build.sigfox.com).
Note: these processes are summarized and simplified, please refer to the standards of the requested country to have more details.
